1. Purpose

The document http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65024 contains the version information of the products SAP GUI, SAPSPrint and SAPPDFPrint, which are relevant for printing via SAP R/3.

In order to better understand how that document should be read, some additional information have been provided under point 3.: "Some more information".

However, the document became less readable due to the increasing number of information which were added to it, and it started to lose its original purpose.

For this reason, additional information will be provided in this document.

This document will be far less updated (if ever) compared to http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65024.

Originally this Appendix has been created for document http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-60950. Although this Appendix is now updated for http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65024, mostly it is still valid for the "old" document too.

2. The information

  • The document http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65024 will be regularly updated with the new versions. Please give some time until everything can be documented.
  • The 64-bit version of SAPPDFPrint is only compatible with the 64-bit version of SAPSPrint. The reason is described in SAP Note #1909193: only 32-bit version of SAP GUI exists, therefore the 64-bit version of SAPPDFPrint and the 32-bit version of SAP GUI can not work together.
  • This also means that the 32/64 bit should not be mixed: a 32-bit product (SAPGUI / SAPSPrint) should only used with a 32-bit product (SAPPDFPrint).
    • This is valid in reverse too: a 64-bit product (SAPPDFPrint) should only be used with a 64-bit product (SAPSPrint, and possibly SAPGUI in the future).
  • When a new SAPPDFPrint version will be installed, it might happen that the old version number will be still logged in the traces. For this reason, the proper procedure to make a clean install of SAPPDFPrint is:
    • Uninstall SAPPDFPrint with Windows "Programs and Features" (from the Control Panel)
    • After restarting the computer check if a SAPPDFPrint folder is left behind in the installation directory, and if yes, delete it manually
    • Install SAPPDFPrint.
  • A personal experience: after SAPPDFPrint has been installed for SAPSPrint, it happened to me (mostly with the x64 versions, although it may happen with the x86 versions too) that PDFs have been still incorrectly printed. This can be seen in the Level-2 log file of SAPSPrint: the PDF spool will not be recognized as PDF but a general "Raw file". The solution was to restart the computer, but the restart of the SAPSPrint service seemed to be useful too.
  • The 740/0 versions have been shipped with the SAP 740 Presentation (Compilation 1) DVD, which therefore won't be additionally noted in the tables. This DVD can be found here:
